Kneecap to Headline Charity Gig at Falls Park Belfast

Hip-hop group Kneecap are set to headline a charity concert at Falls Park in Belfast this August, with all proceeds benefiting two Irish language projects in West Belfast and Derry. The trio, who perform in the Irish language, will take the stage on August 6 as part of the community arts festival Féile an Phobail.

Lineup and Charity Beneficiaries

The Uppa Falls gig will also feature performances from Bob Vylan, Miss Kaninna, and Liambo Slice. Organisers have confirmed that all profits from the event will go to Glór na Móna in West Belfast and Seán Dolan's GAC in Derry. Festival director Kevin Gamble stated: "Kneecap not only speak out to assist communities but take actions too – this is yet another clear example of that, ensuring a huge amount will go into our community thanks to them."

According to organisers, the concert is expected to raise a six-figure sum. The largest recipient, Glór na Móna, will use the funds to build Croí na Carraige, a new Irish medium youth and community hub. Seán Dolan's GAC plans to launch an Irish language initiative hub called An tSíol, offering community-based programmes including classes for adults and young players.

Background on Kneecap and Bob Vylan

Two of Kneecap's members, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh (Mo Chara) and Naoise Ó Cairealláin (Móglaí Bap), come from the West Belfast area. The third member, DJ Próvaí (JJ Ó Dochartaigh), is from Derry. The band recently performed at Glastonbury, where they were investigated by police over on-stage comments. However, Avon and Somerset Police later said they would take no further action due to insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction.

Punk duo Bob Vylan, also on the bill, announced last week on social media that they are taking legal action against the BBC following controversy over their Glastonbury performance, during which one member led chants of “death, death to the IDF (Israel Defence Forces).” That set directly preceded Kneecap's performance.
