Camera crews have been spotted in Liverpool city centre this week as filming is in progress for a new BBC series, Legacy of Spies. The eight-part series is based on John le Carré's novel The Spy Who Came in from the Cold.
Filming Transforms Liverpool into 1960s Set
First published in 1963, the novel became an instant global phenomenon, spending eight months at the top of The New York Times bestseller list. The new BBC series will bring le Carré's novel to life on screen. Filming has already taken place in Prague, Czech Republic, but the cast and crew recently arrived in Liverpool and have been spotted around the city centre.
ECHO photographers have captured photos as several areas of Liverpool have been transformed into a 1960s film set. Vintage cars have been spotted on Old Hall Street, as well as outside St George's Hall.

BAFTA award-winning Matthew Macfadyen (Pride and Prejudice) stars in the series as the iconic George Smiley, alongside Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) as Alec Leamas. Superstar actor Hugh Laurie and Joe Alwyn (Hamnet) were recently announced to be joining the cast. Laurie stars as Control and Alwyn as Jim Prideaux.
