Emmerdale's DS Thea Ramsden is hiding more than just her reasons for targeting the Tates, according to show producer Laura Shaw. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Shaw teased that the detective has "a few secrets" that are about to be exposed.
Important Relationship with Serena Sugden
Shaw also highlighted the "important" connection between Ramsden and secret pal Serena Sugden. "Serena and Thea is going to be a really important relationship going forward," Shaw told the Mirror. "How those two interact... and what we will kind of see is that maybe DS Ramsden has got a few secrets of her own that will start to unravel. I don't think I can say much more than that!"
Fan Theories About Ramsden's Identity
The teaser follows fan theories that Thea is actually former character Jean Tate, after scenes confirmed Thea wanted dirt on the family to "finally take Kim down." Jean, the daughter of Zoe Tate and Kim's former stepdaughter, appeared on the show as a small child. Some viewers speculate Thea is Jean, trying to reclaim Home Farm.
One fan wrote: "So DS Ramsden is Jean Tate, no? Wanting revenge on Kim on behalf of her mum, Zoe?" Another agreed: "I'm positive she's Jean Tate." A third fan said: "I think it's going to turn out to be Zoe's daughter."
Another viewer theorised: "I was thinking could she be Jean using a different name but surely he'd recognise her?" A further post read: "Is DS Ramsden Jean Tate? She wants revenge on Kim, immediately defended Joe and used his first name and their whole interaction was odd, felt pointed."
What's Next for Ramsden?
While Shaw stopped short of revealing major spoilers, she confirmed that the link between Serena and Thea is "important" and will develop on the show. Viewers already know Ramsden is targeting Kim Tate and her family for a mystery reason, but Shaw's tease suggests there is more to uncover.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
