Charlotte Tilbury Makeup Artist Shares 5 Pro Tips Including 28-Second 'Facelift'
Charlotte Tilbury Pro Shares 5 Tips Including 28-Second Facelift

Charlotte Tilbury has officially launched in 31 Boots stores across the UK, and beauty enthusiasts are flocking to test the iconic brand's products in person. A senior fashion and beauty writer visited a Boots store to learn professional tips from a Charlotte Tilbury makeup artist during a free product demonstration. Here are five key takeaways from the session.

1. Test Foundation Shades on the Jawline, Not the Hand

Instead of swatching complexion products on the back of the hand, the makeup artist advised testing them on the jawline. During the demonstration, three shades of the Unreal Skin Sheer Glow Tint were applied side by side along the jawline to find the perfect match. The artist explained that foundation should blend seamlessly into the neck rather than matching the face exactly, creating a more natural finish.

2. Skincare Prep with Massage for a 28-Second Facelift

Before applying makeup, the artist emphasized proper skincare prep. For dry or dehydrated skin, she recommended Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Serum Crystal Elixir (£65), which contains five real crystals, vitamin C, and provides a glowy look. She followed with Magic Water Cream (£54), massaging upwards over the cheeks and under the jawline, finishing with Charlotte Tilbury's signature Tilbury Tap for what she described as a 'face lift in 28 seconds.' The lifting motions boost circulation and create a naturally sculpted look.

3. Build Coverage in Layers

The Unreal Skin Sheer Glow Tint (£37, 20 shades) is a sheer, buildable base designed for a no-makeup makeup look. The artist applied a small amount directly onto the skin, starting from the centre of the face and blending outwards to avoid harsh lines. She noted that it's easier to build coverage than remove excess product. The tint contains hyaluronic acid, daikon radish seed oil, and vitamin E for a dewy finish. However, it cannot be built to medium or full coverage.

4. Use Setting Spray Between Each Layer

The makeup artist applied Charlotte Tilbury's cult Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray (£33) between each makeup layer, not just at the end. This restores hydration and helps each product melt together for a smoother finish. For those with oily skin, an alternative is the On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray by One/Size (£32 at Sephora), which contains green tea extract and oil-absorbing witch hazel.

5. Blush Placement Over Botox

The biggest takeaway was the blush placement technique using the new Unreal Blush Healthy Glow Stick. Instead of applying blush to the apples of the cheeks, the artist placed it higher on the cheekbones and blended in an L-shape towards the temple. She said, 'You only need a tiny amount and you can pat and then gently swipe towards the ear. It's like you've had Botox when you haven't.' This instantly lifted the face. The blush stick costs £32, but mini travel-sized versions are available for £16.

The writer also tried Charlotte Tilbury's Exagger-Eyes Mascara and Unreal Lips Healthy Glow Nectar Oil in Pure Peach to complete the look. The finished makeup was fresh, glowing, and natural, perfect for summer.
