The BBC has officially confirmed a third series of the hit sitcom Smoggie Queens, following an overwhelmingly positive response from viewers. The show, which returned for its second season in May after a two-year hiatus, has been lauded for its authentic portrayal of Middlesbrough's LGBTQ+ community.
Creator Phil Dunning Announces Recommission
Writer and creator Phil Dunning expressed his excitement on social media, stating: "So buzzing to be recommissioned for series three! Thank you BBC! Going to have a cheeky Bloody Mam to celebrate." He teased that the new series would bring "even more chaos, heart and mischief than ever before."
Cast and Characters
The award-winning series stars Dunning himself as Dickie, alongside Elijah Young as Stewart, Patsy Lowe as Sal, Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell as Lucinda, and Mark Benton as Mam. The show has also featured guest appearances from notable figures including Steph McGovern, Jeff Stelling, and Chris Kamara.
Critical and Fan Praise
BBC commissioning editor Gregor Sharp praised the show for its "razor sharp humour and huge heart." Fans have echoed this sentiment, with one viewer calling it "absolutely hilarious, sharp, witty and at times poignant." Another described it as "absolutely bloody brilliant," adding that it had "me and the missus laughing our heads off from start to finish." A third fan remarked: "From the very first five minutes, this show had me hooked. It's genuinely laugh-out-loud funny and truly captures the spirit of Middlesbrough in a way that feels authentic and unique."

While a release date for the third series has not yet been announced, reports indicate that additional cast members will be revealed soon. All episodes of Smoggie Queens are currently available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
