Amanda Holden's On-Air Plea to Husband: 'I Want Another Puppy'
Amanda Holden's family regret and on-air puppy plea

Heart Breakfast presenter Amanda Holden has made a heartfelt and humorous public appeal to her husband, Chris Hughes, live on air, revealing a personal family regret and her desire to expand their household with a new furry addition.

A Family Wish and a Live-On-Air Plea

During Wednesday's edition of Heart Breakfast with co-hosts Jamie Theakston and Ashley Roberts, the 53-year-old star opened up about her family life with music manager Chris Hughes. The couple, who married in 2008 after meeting in Los Angeles, share two daughters: Lexi, 19, and Hollie, 12.

Amanda candidly admitted she wished she had been able to have more children with Chris. "Oh I would've had loads if I had met Chris earlier, I would've had loads," she said. "I would've gone for four I think, but yeah I'm going to say we had three, we ended up with two if you know what I mean." This poignant comment referenced the tragic stillbirth of their son, Theo, in 2011.

The conversation then turned to the present, with Amanda seizing the radio platform to address her spouse directly. "I'm going to have to talk to Chris because I really want to rescue another puppy and if he's listening and it goes out on air, it'll be very difficult for him to turn me down," she declared, before adding sweetly, "Darling, I love you."

The Current Pet Family Dynamics

The Hughes-Holden family are already dedicated animal lovers. They own rescue dog Rudie and a cat named Muffy, both from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Last year, Amanda introduced a new cat, Bolt, into the family after falling for him during a holiday in Greece.

However, blending the pets has not been without incident. Speaking on her show in October, Amanda recounted a serious fight between her two cats which left her injured. "I've never seen anything like it and my own cat got hold of my wrist with her teeth, and I literally lifted my arm in the air and she was still on it," she explained, noting she required medication from a doctor afterwards.

Her husband Chris later texted her joking that she had "milked" the cat bite story, a pun Amanda insisted she did not exaggerate as the situation was "serious."

Looking to the Future

Despite the occasional pet-related drama, Amanda's love for animals is clear, fuelling her latest campaign for a new rescue puppy. Her on-air comments blend humour with genuine sentiment, showcasing her close relationship with her husband of over 16 years.

The presenter's openness about both the joys and profound sadness in her family journey, from the loss of Theo to the joy of her daughters and pets, resonates with many listeners. Her live radio plea adds a playful, relatable chapter to their ongoing family story.
