Zoe Ball has apologised to BBC Radio 2 listeners after struggling on air, admitting she was unable to function properly during a recent broadcast. The presenter told fans she was 'so dreadfully sorry' after fumbling with her glasses and becoming flustered.
Ball, who returned to the show two weeks ago after a six-week break, said: 'Look at me, I know this is radio, I just tried to put my glasses on and they're all over... here I am. Tina is taking a picture. I can't function today, I can't function. I'm so dreadfully sorry about that.' She later regained her composure and continued the show in an upbeat mood.
The incident comes days after Ball made an emotional confession to Channel 5 star Jane McDonald, who appeared on the show to discuss her new book, 'Let The Light In', which addresses the loss of her husband Eddie. Ball told McDonald: 'I was just telling you there actually how much it meant to me reading this book. It made me laugh, it made me cry. It gave me an excuse to have a little cry, which we all need to do.'
Ball has been open about her own grief following the death of her mother, Julia, in April. She announced the news in a statement, writing: 'Heartbreakingly our beautiful Mama Julia has been diagnosed with cancer... these are extremely tough times.' Her extended absence from Radio 2 in August sparked concerns among fans and colleagues, but the BBC confirmed it was planned holiday time.
