Former Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans made an unexpected return to BBC One on Saturday night, appearing on an episode of Pointless Celebrities. The appearance comes months after the BBC stated it had "no plans" to work with him following his departure from the live tour and his radio show.
Evans, 53, was paired with actress Joanna Page, his co-star from the travel series Wynne & Joanna: All at Sea, which the BBC confirmed in June would not be renewed for a second series. The duo competed in the pre-recorded episode but failed to reach the final, losing to BBC News presenters Jane Hill and Ben Boulos.
The broadcast surprised some viewers, with one writing on X: "Wynne Evans? This must have been recorded 10 years ago?" Another commented: "Seriously??? Who the hell thought Wynne Evans appearing would be a good idea." However, a third viewer praised the decision, saying: "Well done BBC - Wynne on Pointless - common sense at last."
Evans had previously announced the episode on Instagram, sharing a photo with Page and writing: "Tonight back on BBC One for Celebrity Pointless with Joanna." The timing of the recording has not been confirmed, but some viewers speculated it could mark his final BBC appearance.
The episode aired after the BBC cut ties with Evans earlier this year. He left the Strictly Come Dancing live tour in January following a reported remark using the term 'spit roast' towards host Janette Manrara, which he later clarified was part of a nickname and "wasn't meant sexually." He also departed his BBC Radio Wales show, which he had hosted since 2016. In May, a BBC spokesperson said: "He is not returning to the mid-morning show... and there are currently no plans to work with him."
