Leo Suter steps into the role of DI Tommy Lynley in a polished reboot of the 2000s series, based on Elizabeth George’s novels. The show airs at 8.30pm on BBC One. Lucy Worsley investigates the Victorian Thames Torso Murderer case at 9pm on BBC Two. She examines the first murder in 1887, when a lower torso was found in the river, followed by other body parts across London. She enlists a team to identify the serial killer and victims.
At 9pm on Channel 5, police-chasing documentary returns with the case of a man beaten to death in a basement squat in Lancashire. Cameras follow the investigation from the first 999 call, as detectives question whether the arrested man is the culprit or a second victim.
