Tom Jones fans petition ITV to keep singer on The Voice

More than 77,000 fans have signed a petition urging ITV to keep Sir Tom Jones as a coach on The Voice UK, after the Welsh singer said he had been removed from the show.

Saturday's series finale is likely to be Sir Tom's last appearance on the hit ITV show if broadcasting bosses get their way. The 86-year-old from Treforest told his social media followers in September that ITV had "fired" him as a judge. He has been a coach on and off on the show since it launched in 2012.

Petition launched by superfan

Superfan Aaron Howlett, 50, from Kingston-upon-Hull, started the petition, which has now garnered more than 77,000 signatures from across the world.

The petition says: "Sir Tom Jones, the legendary artist with decades of music industry experience, has recently been removed from his role as a judge on The Voice UK by ITV."

It adds: "This decision has not only disappointed millions of his fans but has also deprived aspiring singers of the chance to be guided by someone of his stature and expertise."

Fans' concerns over removal

The petition argues that Sir Tom is "an essential part" of The Voice UK, citing his "genuine interactions, insightful critiques, and mentorship" as having a "profound impact" on contestants and the audience.

It states: "His presence has been integral to the chemistry and success of the programme. Furthermore, his removal could negatively impact the ratings and reputation of The Voice UK, considering the substantial following and goodwill he brings."

The petition concludes: "With all due respect, ITV should reconsider their decision."

Tour postponed due to illness

Sir Tom cancelled live shows this week owing to health concerns. Following advice from his doctor, he has been forced to reschedule all five of his remaining shows on his US tour.

After completing 20 shows, the Welsh singer postponed two of his upcoming shows on Monday, October 26, and then a further one on Thursday, October 29. He then announced to fans that he would be postponing the remainder of his tour, citing that he had been "unexpectedly been hit with a bad case of the flu."

Following advice from his doctor, Sir Tom has postponed his next two shows on October 31 and November 1 until further notice.
