Sir Tom Jones made his final appearance on The Voice UK, and viewers were left in tears as his act, Cait McHugh, was declared the winner of the 2026 series by presenter Emma Willis.
The 86-year-old singer had learned last month that he would not be returning as a coach on the ITV programme. This evening's finale marked his last time on the show, and supporters took to social media to express their emotions.
Fans react to Sir Tom's final series
One supporter wrote on X: "Anyone else get emotional every time they even see Tom, knowing this is his last series?" Another remarked: "A massive well done to Cait! A beautiful and sensational singer mentored by a truly iconic singer! See, this is so wrong that Tom Jones is leaving."
A third fan stated: "The Voice will be finished when Sir Tom leaves..." while someone else noted: "So glad for Kate, but also for Sir Tom." Another supporter added with a crying face emoji: "Tom Jones wins as a mentor, congratulations! But it's bittersweet, though, as it's his last year on."
Sir Tom's departure and the new lineup
Sir Tom and will.i.am are two of the original judges on The Voice. In 2024, they were joined by newcomers LeAnn, Danny, and Tom, who substituted previous coaches Anne Marie and Olly Murs.
It was previously announced that the Welsh singing legend would not be returning after 13 years on the programme, a decision he said was not his. Speaking on Instagram last month, he said: "To be clear, I did not want to leave The Voice as I love the show and really appreciate the audience. ITV made this decision - obviously a while ago, and I was just told recently."
It has since emerged that Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon will step up as presenters, with rap artist Aitch and global pop icon Cheryl joining the judging panel alongside Kelly Rowland and long-standing judge will.i.am.
Tour postponements due to ill health
The announcement follows Sir Tom's forced withdrawal from several performances due to ill health. Having completed 20 shows, the Welsh singer postponed two of his forthcoming dates on Monday, October 26, and then a further one on Thursday, October 29.
Fans have since been informed that he will be postponing the remainder of his tour, citing being "unexpectedly hit with a bad case of the flu." On medical advice, Sir Tom has postponed his next two shows on October 31 and November 1 until further notice.
The Voice is available to watch on ITVX.
