Regular viewers of the BBC's flagship evening programme, The One Show, will notice a significant change to the presenting line-up this week. The familiar duo of Alex Jones and Roman Kemp, who have become a staple on the iconic green sofa, will be absent from Wednesday's broadcast.
Filming Commitments Take Priority
During the closing moments of Tuesday's episode, the presenters revealed the reason for their simultaneous departure. Roman Kemp announced that both he and Alex Jones are travelling to Windsor Castle to film content for a special episode scheduled to air on Friday, March 6th.
"Alex and I are off to Windsor Castle for the 500-word grand final, which you will be able to watch in a special episode of The One Show on Friday, March 6," Kemp stated, as reported by Wales Online.
Capable Replacements Step In
Alex Jones quickly reassured the audience that the show would remain in excellent hands during their absence. She confirmed that Vernon Kay would be stepping in to host Wednesday's programme.
Jones elaborated: "You'll be in safe hands with Vernon [Kay], he'll be joined by BAFTA winner Jessie Buckley, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Bridgerton stars Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha."
She also mentioned that Nikki Fox would be present with a segment from Watchdog, ensuring the programme's usual mix of entertainment and consumer affairs continues uninterrupted.
Jack Whitehall Discusses Brit Awards Nerves
In another segment of the same episode, the presenting pair interviewed comedian Jack Whitehall ahead of this year's Brit Awards. The prestigious music ceremony is set to take place in Manchester this weekend, marking its first time in the city.
Whitehall, who is preparing to host the event for an impressive sixth time, confessed to still experiencing significant pre-show anxiety. The 37-year-old described the live broadcast as a daunting prospect.
"I do still get really nervous because it is terrifying," he admitted. "Going out there, it's live television, it's three hours, it's such a rowdy crowd as well. You never know what's going to happen, you plan for everything, but there are always mishaps and technical malfunctions and people who don't want to play ball."
He likened the experience to a "genuine rollercoaster" and noted that only when the final curtain falls does he feel a sense of relief.
Regular Scheduling Resumes
Alex Jones confirmed that both she and Roman Kemp would return to their presenting duties on Thursday. The One Show continues its regular weekday schedule on BBC One, airing at 7pm each evening.
The temporary reshuffle highlights the programme's flexible presenting roster and its commitment to producing special filmed content for future broadcasts, maintaining its position as a cornerstone of early evening television.
