Channel 5's thriller The Holiday, adapted from TM Logan's Sunday Times best-seller, reaches its gripping conclusion this week. The four-part drama stars Jill Halfpenny as Kate, a woman whose family holiday turns into a nightmare when she discovers her husband is having an affair with one of her closest friends, and a member of the group is found dead at the bottom of a cliff.
In a new clip from the finale, Kate is seen fleeing a fire and rushing back to her holiday villa, where she has an emotional reunion with her two children. Her husband Sean, played by Owen McDonnell, looks on in apparent shock. Kate then asks for Sean's phone, which he reluctantly hands over, and she makes a call. The identity of the person on the other end will be revealed in the finale airing Friday, March 4th at 9pm on Channel 5.
Halfpenny recently described the adaptation as 'pretty close' to the novel, noting minor changes towards the end. She acknowledged the challenge of condensing a 600-page book into a drama, saying: 'You can't get the amount of detail and nuance in a drama that you get in a 600-page book, otherwise it'd be a 20-episode drama.'
The actress also addressed fan expectations, stating: 'I think people do always feel like, 'Oh, you didn't put the part in that was my favourite.' But there just has to be a choice when you're adapting something and the story has to keep moving.' She added that while novels explore characters' internal worlds, drama is visual and relies on showing rather than telling.
