Sky has confirmed that Danny Dyer will return to host a new series of 'The Wall' following his departure from EastEnders. The actor, who plays Mick Carter in the BBC soap, is leaving after nine years to pursue other opportunities, including a reported six-figure deal with Sky.
Dyer's exit from EastEnders was confirmed by the BBC, though an exact date has not been given. The show stated that Dyer is not leaving imminently, with 'plenty of explosive drama' planned for his character. Reports had suggested the departure of the soap's biggest star had plunged the show into crisis, but a BBC spokesperson denied this, saying Dyer would leave when his contract ends later this year.
Dyer, 44, made his name in British films such as 'Human Traffic' and 'The Football Factory'. His portrayal of Mick Carter has earned him several National Television Awards. The character has been involved in storylines including an affair and the rape of his wife, Linda.
A source told the Sunday Mirror that Dyer was given an offer he couldn't refuse by Sky. Dyer's friend said he was 'incredibly grateful' to EastEnders but felt it was time to give the character a rest. Dyer had previously considered leaving in 2017 but signed a new deal.
