Shirley Ballas, a Strictly Come Dancing judge since 2017, is reportedly set to appear as a guest judge on the US show Dancing with the Stars, according to a source quoted by The Sun. The move would see her travel to America later this month after the Strictly live show finishes, while she continues her role on the BBC One programme.
Guest Judge Stint on US Show
The source told The Sun: "Shirley will fly to the US later this month after the Strictly live show finishes." It is understood that her position on Strictly will not be affected, as Dancing with the Stars is filmed throughout the week. The source added: "It's a whirlwind schedule, but she jumped at the chance to take part."
The insider suggested the US opportunity is a one-off, though it could lead to further appearances. They said: "If the US TV bosses think Shirley is a hit, they're sure to see if she would come back." Shirley's representative has been approached for a comment.
Family Ties to the Show
Shirley already has a connection to Dancing with the Stars through her son Mark, whom she shares with second ex-husband Corky Ballas. Mark has been a professional dancer on the programme since 2007 and has won the series three times. He is currently taking part in the 35th season, partnered with former Love Island contestant and I'm A Celebrity star Maura Higgins.
Shirley became a grandmother for the first time in 2022 when Mark welcomed his son with his partner BC Jean. Reflecting on her grandson at the time, Shirley told HELLO!'s podcast Changemakers: "This is my second chance to show that I am a good mum; I could have been great." She added: "I think I was an okay mum. I think my mother was an outstanding mother. Fortunately, my son always had my mother from 18 months old."
Shirley has returned for this year's Strictly series alongside fellow judges Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse. Strictly Come Dancing airs every weekend on BBC One and iPlayer.
