The first two episodes of the revived Scrubs series have landed on Disney Plus, nearly two decades after the original medical sitcom ended. Season 10 picks up after the Season 8 finale, disregarding the events of Season 9, as confirmed by show creator Bill Lawrence.
The new season sees the return of fan favourites J.D. (Zach Braff), Elliot (Sarah Chalke), Turk (Donald Faison), Carla (Judy Reyes), and Doctor Cox (John C. McGinley). J.D. is now Chief of Medicine, while Doctor Cox nears retirement. The synopsis teases: "J.D. and Turk scrub in together for the first time in a long time. Medicine has changed; interns have changed; but their bromance has stood the test of time."
However, one beloved character is notably absent: Sam Lloyd, who played lawyer Ted Buckland, passed away in 2020 from brain cancer. His character is not being recast, but a tribute is hidden in plain sight. A new bar named Lloyd's Tavern appears in the series, as Braff revealed to Esquire: "That was the production designer’s idea, which I thought was beautiful. So there’s a nod to Sam."
Braff added: "We love Sam; we miss him. It’s hard to do this show without him. Our plan is to most definitely have an episode that is a tribute to him." New episodes will release weekly on Disney Plus.
