A Saturday Kitchen guest was caught swearing moments into the show, with presenter Matt Tebbutt later addressing the "fruity language" heard by viewers. The incident occurred seconds after the BBC One programme took over from BBC Breakfast at 10am, before the opening credits had finished rolling.
Guest unaware he was on air
As the cameras went live, one of the guests, Alan Cumming, was heard by the microphones, clearly not realising they were already broadcasting. "F**k nobody heard him," Alan could be heard telling a co-star immediately as the show began.
Television critic Scott Bryan commented on the moment, posting footage on social media and saying: "Well that's one way to start Saturday Kitchen."
Presenter's mid-show apology
Others highlighted Matt's apology later during the episode for the "fruity language", as reported by the Mirror. "Hahaha amazing. He did apologize mid-show," one viewer remarked. Another responded with amusement: "Fruity language? Where? I love a bit of fruity language on a Saturday morning."
A further viewer posted on X: "Me hitting 'watch from start' to find 'fruity language'." Another clarified: "Ok so the fruity language was Alan saying, "thank f**k nobody heard him" as Matt did the intro before opening credits."
Matt Tebbutt's tenure on the show
Matt has been fronting Saturday Kitchen since 2017, after succeeding James Martin. Prior to that, he featured as a regular guest presenter, making his first appearance in 2009.
He previously opened up about the future of the show, admitting: "It's going to stop at some point. I'm going to have to do something." When asked about his new ventures if the show ends and whether he would return to the restaurant industry, he added: "Never say never. Maybe that's the time to do it."
He had previously shared: "We sort of carry on making the best show we can, people still love it, they're still watching it, in their millions fortunately. So it's still got a huge place but I think going forward, TV in general will have to address how it's viewed."
Saturday Kitchen airs from 10am on BBC One and iPlayer.
