BBC presenter Sally Nugent has revealed an awkward moment with Prince William after a long-awaited interview, which airs on BBC One on Monday at 8pm.
The future king spoke with Nugent in a special television appearance, discussing Sir Kevin Sinfield, whom he greatly admires. Nugent admitted the interview had been years in the making.
Awkward photo moment
Speaking to her co-host, Nugent said: "That was an interview that has been years in the making. I know the Prince and Princess [of Wales] have followed Rob [Burrows] and Kevin for all of these years, so it was great to finally talk to him."
She added: "And you know when I go and do interviews normally it's very very relaxed and we all have a picture at the end…. Look what I did…"
A photo appeared on the screen, with Nugent saying: "Look, look! Look at me with my awkward hands! I said to him, 'What are we gonna do with our hands?', and he said, 'Well, I'm going to do this'. So I thought, well I'll just do the same… you can't put your arms around the Prince of Wales, can you?!"
Fans react
Nugent shared the post to Instagram, and fans rushed to the comments to congratulate the presenter on interviewing the prince. One person said: "This is INSANE!" Another penned: "Wonderful, BBC could not have a better presenter than Sally for this programme."
A third said: "Look forward to seeing your interview with HRH, and the programme about sir Kev #legend." Another person commented: "Sally you're wonderful and so is Prince William!"
Prince William on Sir Kevin Sinfield
In the interview, the prince says giving Sir Kevin Sinfield a knighthood was "probably one of the easiest decisions anyone's ever had to make". Sir Kevin completed seven ultra marathons in seven days to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities following the death of his best friend and former rugby teammate, Rob Burrow, who died from the condition in 2024, reports Hello! Magazine.
Prince William said: "I think frankly he should have been Sir Kevin years ago. I don't know how he keeps going, I'm worried about his knees, I'm worried about his hips! The guy is just a machine."
The prince added: "He's a top bloke, really nice guy, good, honest, kind, decent northerner and I love that about Kevin, that there is no ego with him. He is what you get."
