Tributes to mum and dad who died in Somerset crash

Karen Cozens, 60, and David Cozens, 52, both from Minehead in Somerset, died at the scene of a collision on the A358 in Combe Florey on Wednesday 30 September.

Police officers were called after a white Mazda Bongo van and a Volvo lorry collided at around 6.40am. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, both died at the scene.

Family tributes to Karen and David

In a tribute, Karen's family expressed their heartbreak and shock following the death of their mum and step-dad. They said: "They were both loved by their family and by everyone around them. They loved going on camping trips, watching banger racing and walking their dogs."

"We will miss them so much and we only wish they had more time to watch their grandchildren grow up. Mum was an incredible woman who had a heart of gold and was a friend to many. She was the light in our family and the pain of losing her cannot be described."

They added: "We want to thank all the emergency services, air ambulance and especially the three members of the public who tried to help our mum and step-dad in the moments after the collision. It won't be forgotten."

David remembered as 'patriarch'

In a separate tribute, David's son Matthew said: "Dad always put his family first and was always there for us when we needed him. He was the patriarch of our family and always so proud of his children and grandchildren."

"He was the jolliest of blokes and always loved to have a laugh with everyone. He was the man who always had a smile to brighten everyone's day and the memories I shared with him will live on in my heart always."

He continued: "The days are becoming shorter but the pain of missing you is only getting harder. I know you're at peace and reunited with your mum and dad. It's not goodbye it's until we meet again, I'll always love and miss you dearly. Dad, your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure."

Avon and Somerset Police said both families continue to be supported by a specially-trained family liaison officer.
