E.ON Next applies £150 discount to 565,000 accounts

E.ON Next has applied a £150 Warm Home Discount credit to the energy accounts of 565,000 customers, the company has confirmed. The payments, made automatically through the Government's Warm Home Discount scheme, are being issued at the earliest opportunity to support lower-income households during the winter.

Payments applied automatically

The energy provider said it has begun applying the discount as soon as customer details are received from the Government. Letters notifying eligible households about the scheme started being dispatched last week, with correspondence continuing to arrive until January 2027.

E.ON Next will keep issuing payments through to the end of March as it receives updated customer information. The £150 is not paid in cash; instead, recipients receive the credit on their accounts via their energy supplier.

Support for eligible households

Ramona Vlasiu, chief operating officer at E.ON Next, said: "For a number of years, we've worked to apply Warm Home Discount payments to eligible customers' bills as early as possible, so they can benefit as winter approaches. We know many households are already carefully managing their finances, and the colder months can bring added pressure as energy use increases to keep homes warm."

She added: "We also have a range of support available to customers who need it. Depending on their circumstances, support can include direct financial help, affordable repayment plans and access to specialist advice."

Scheme expansion and eligibility

The Warm Home Discount is now available to every bill payer receiving means-tested benefits. Nearly 2.3 million additional households received the rebate last year following the expansion of the scheme, and six million homes across Britain are set to benefit from the £150 discount this year.

For those who need to submit further details to receive the payment, instructions will be sent in a letter from the Government, and they must contact the helpline before February 26, 2027.

Government response

Minister for energy consumers Polly Billington said: "I know that many families will be struggling with their energy bills this winter. That is why I urge those who think they qualify for the Warm Home Discount to keep an eye out for a letter confirming their eligibility."

She added: "Energy is an absolute essential, which is exactly why in October we cut VAT on all electricity bills and earlier this year we removed £150 of costs off bills, giving families breathing space this winter." Earlier this year, the Government confirmed that millions of eligible households will continue to receive the Warm Home Discount for the remainder of the decade, with the scheme scheduled to run through to 2030/31.
