Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley has confirmed he has no plans to leave the ITV programme, despite recent Ofcom complaints and presenter shake-ups. The 68-year-old told The Sun he would stay on the show 'as long as they want me', dismissing speculation about his future.
Madeley acknowledged his age, saying: 'At some point, I’m going to be too bloody old - I’m 68! At some stage either I will think or ITV will think maybe the time comes. But hopefully that will be for a few years yet, because I don’t feel 68.' He also denied any feud with co-host Susanna Reid, adding: 'I wouldn’t get up at four in the f****** morning two weeks out of four, Monday to Thursday, if I didn’t enjoy it.'
The presenter and the show have faced multiple Ofcom complaints. In June, a heated debate about XL Bully dogs drew 1,765 complaints after Madeley asked guest Mike Parry how he would get rid of every XL bully in the country. In September last year, hundreds complained when Madeley slammed his hand on the desk during a discussion about reparations for slavery with the President of Guyana.
Good Morning Britain itself received 8,000 complaints last month over Ed Balls' handling of an interview about far-right violence, and hundreds more over Nigel Farage's appearance. ITV has also faced criticism for giving airtime to politicians like Matt Hancock and Farage on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
