Bravo has officially paused production on The Real Housewives of Miami after seven seasons, according to multiple sources who have informed various media outlets. The series, which originally aired from 2011 to 2013, was placed on a lengthy hiatus before being revived on Peacock in 2021 and subsequently returning to Bravo two years later.
Uncertain Future for the Franchise
While the network has not outright canceled the show, no concrete plans have been established for an eighth season. Reports from TMZ suggest that Bravo is currently weighing options, including a potential reboot or significant cast reshuffle, as the series faces challenges.
Cast Dynamics and Ratings Concerns
When The Real Housewives of Miami made its comeback, it featured several original cast members, including Larsa Pippen, a former close friend of Kim Kardashian, along with Adriana de Moura, Alexia Nepola, Lisa Hochstein, and Marysol Patton. New stars were also introduced, such as Russian model Julia Lemigova, who made history as the first lesbian Real Housewife and is married to tennis legend Martina Navratilova.
The seventh season, which concluded in October, has been reported by Variety to have the lowest ratings of any franchise in the Real Housewives series. The main cast for this season included Guerdy Abraira and Stephanie Shojaee, alongside Lemigova, Hochstein, Pippen, and Nepola. Patton and de Moura appeared in recurring guest roles, known as 'friends of the Housewives,' with Nicole Martin as a standard guest star.
Internal Sources Reveal Production Issues
A source told Reality Blurb, the first outlet to report the production pause, that there is chatter among insiders about the show being canceled, citing trouble with casting. The insider highlighted a $10 million defamation lawsuit filed against Bravo by Alexia Nepola's ex-husband Todd, which was withdrawn with prejudice in December.
'Some of the issues have to do with Alexia due to Todd’s lawsuit and how Todd won’t be on the show. Without Todd, her story would be more or less dead, and that would have an effect on the entire franchise,' the source observed. They further opined that producers 'really don’t understand Miami' and 'never have,' leading to ongoing problems.
Allegations of Favoritism and Misrepresentation
Producers have been accused of having 'favorites' and becoming 'too personally involved,' which has impeded necessary casting decisions. According to the source, 'If they’re told that so and so is the queen of Miami, they just take it at face value. There is no due diligence, and it’s usually wrong information.'
The insider claimed that Miami is 'much bigger than the microcosm of weirdos they have on that show' and suggested that only Alexia, Lisa Hochstein, and perhaps Stephanie Shojaee are truly representative of the city.
Potential Long-Term Pause and Cast Changes
Another source indicated that the production halt is 'going to be a very long pause, which many are interpreting to mean the show is canceled.' This insider alleged that Bravo was initially planning to replace four cast members with new ones but has now decided against a reboot, opting instead to let the show sit indefinitely.
Earlier this month, sources via Page Six suggested that Lemigova and Abraira might be fired, along with a possible third cast member whose removal would surprise fans. Meanwhile, another insider claimed that Shojaee, who joined the series for the first time in season seven, is uncertain about returning for another season.
The future of The Real Housewives of Miami remains in limbo as Bravo evaluates its next steps amidst declining ratings and internal production challenges.
