Queen Camilla could be set for an extraordinary offer that would see her take on a starring role in a popular British crime drama, potentially rivaling Meghan Markle's acting career. Author Peter James, one of Camilla's favourite writers, has expressed hopes that the Queen and King Charles will appear in the ITV adaptation of his best-selling Roy Grace novels.
Author Wants Queen to Play Herself
Speaking at the Brighton Palace Pier launch of his latest novel, Dead In Three Two One, Mr James revealed: "I'm going to ask Camilla if she'd like to play herself in Grace." In his previous thriller, The Hawk Is Dead, the King and Queen help Grace after he's called upon to solve the murder of a royal aide.
Asked who he thinks should play Camilla opposite John Simm's Grace, James declared: "I would choose Camilla," adding, "I'd love to see Charles in The Hawk, too. He did some acting at school, and I'd love to see him take it up again."
Royal Acting History
Camilla visited the set of the Grace episode "Dead Tomorrow" in 2021, where she offered to appear as a corpse. During his time at Gordonstoun School, King Charles played Macbeth in a school play and the Duke of Exeter in Henry V.
Speaking further of the Queen, the author added: "Camilla's up for a laugh, and she's really good fun." He then added: "I love her sense of humour – it would be so cool if she starred in it."
Meghan's Return and Netflix Claims
Meghan, 45, moved back to the UK with her husband, Prince Harry, and their two children in August. She previously enjoyed a very successful acting career, best known for her role as Rachel Zane on the US legal drama Suits.
This comes after Netflix recently hit back at claims that Meghan was "used" by them to promote the series The Gentlemen, just weeks after rumours swirled that she was joining the cast. Talks that Meghan was joining the show have since been squashed; however, Netflix has now taken aim at the claims.
Speaking to The Times, an insider said: "This is not a show in need of stunt casting." A friend of Meghan recently told the Telegraph: "Some people in her camp feel she was used to help promote season two, because they knew it wasn't as good as the first season and had already commissioned a third [series]. It's the oldest marketing trick in the book: get a big name to read a script, then leak that you're 'in conversation' with them when, in reality, nothing is particularly far along."
The whole thing left a bit of a sour taste in the Sussex camp's mouth. Needless to say, Netflix got what it wanted: huge viewing figures for season two and a lot of publicity. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now thought to be living in the Cotswolds with their children. The couple made their first public appearance since their return last week, heading to Nottingham for three separate engagements.
