Pierce Brosnan Open to James Bond Return as Retired Agent
Pierce Brosnan hints at future James Bond role

Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has hinted he would be open to making a sensational return to the iconic spy franchise, though not in the role that made him famous.

A New Chapter for 007?

In a candid interview with British GQ, the 72-year-old Irish actor addressed persistent questions about once again playing the secret agent. Brosnan, who memorably portrayed 007 in four films between 1995 and 2002, suggested a different path forward.

"Of course, people ask about Bond – ‘would you?’ and whatever – but that’s another man’s job," Brosnan stated. He then revealed intriguing possibilities, adding: "But the possibilities of working within that film, entertaining… So it’s going to be exciting to see what happens."

Embracing a Different Kind of Role

When directly questioned about the potential of playing a retired agent within the Bond universe, Brosnan offered a measured response. "Sometimes you entertain it and sometimes you just move on," he remarked, leaving the door firmly ajar for a future appearance.

This isn't the only project exciting the veteran actor. He expressed strong ambition to create a second film in The Thursday Murder Club series, based on Richard Osman's beloved books. Brosnan currently stars as former trade union leader Ron Ritchie in the first film, released earlier this year.

His schedule remains busy, as he is also filming the second season of the Paramount+ crime drama MobLand.

A Celebrated Career and Future Ambitions

Reflecting on his recent prolific period, Brosnan commented: "It’s just been a delight for two years of working back to back. In this time and place in age, it allows me to play characters. It allows me to enjoy the process of acting."

The actor, whose Bond tenure included GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day, now consciously seeks roles that suit his stage of life.

"There is a definite conscious intention to go forwards because I’m the age I am, and I embrace it," he noted. "I don’t want to jump out of aeroplanes. Jump on the bus. Jump off the bus."

Brosnan is set to be honoured at the GQ ‘Men Of The Year’ event in London on November 18, with the full interview available in the special edition.
