Netflix Drops Raunchy David Attenborough Parody After His 100th Birthday
Netflix Parody Mocks David Attenborough After His 100th Birthday

A new animated Netflix comedy poking fun at David Attenborough documentaries has been released just days after the iconic broadcaster turned 100. The series, titled Mating Season, comes from the creators of Big Mouth and offers a raunchy take on the animal kingdom.

Attenborough's 100th Birthday

Sir David Attenborough became a centenarian on 8th May, with King Charles III and Queen Camilla among those paying tribute to the beloved Brit. Known for his soft-spoken narration and environmental advocacy in series like Planet Earth and Blue Planet, Attenborough is considered a national treasure.

The Parody Series

Mating Season features a parody of Attenborough's whispery voiceover guiding viewers through the mating rituals of various species. The cast includes introverted bear Josh (Zach Woods), raunchy raccoon Ray (Nick Kroll), lesbian fox Penelope (Sabrina Jalees), and terminally single deer Fawn (June Diane Raphael). The show is created by Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Jennifer Flackett, and Mark Levin, the same team behind Big Mouth.

The trailer begins with an unmistakable parody: a narrator intones over a shot of Earth, saying, "For all of Earth's creatures, the greatest pursuit is finding a mating partner." As we meet Josh crying on his bed, the narration continues, "This unimpressive beta male is faced with another mating season all alone." Josh soon discovers his life is being filmed and swipes at the camera, leading into previews of raunchy antics.

Mixed Reception

The series has received mixed responses from Netflix subscribers. One user commented on YouTube, "Netflix is really scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one." Another complained, "Ah yes, another 'adult cartoon' where the plot is sex, how original." A third viewer predicted, "With a plot like this, it'll probably get cancelled after just one season."

Despite the criticism, Mating Season promises plenty of gross-out and obscene humour as the animal characters try to find love in their forest home. The show is now available to stream on Netflix.
