Bedfordshire Police have charged a 16-year-old boy with murder after a 17-year-old was fatally stabbed at a skate park in Luton.
Incident Details
The attack took place at Kingsway Recreation Ground shortly after 6.30pm on Friday July 24. The victim, a 17-year-old boy, was rushed to hospital with multiple stab wounds but died shortly afterwards.
Police received reports of a number of teenagers carrying large knives at the scene.
Arrests
Three further 17-year-old boys were arrested on Saturday and Sunday, all on suspicion of murder, violent disorder and carrying a weapon. Another 17-year-old boy, arrested on Friday and treated in hospital for serious injuries, is now in police custody.
The 16-year-old charged with murder was arrested on Friday and has been remanded in custody.
Police Investigation
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardener said: “We are progressing our investigation, and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area, or witnessed the events leading up to the disorder to please get in touch.”
He added: “Our officers are continuing to carry out additional high-visibility patrols, and we are continuing to engage with local members of the public.”
Gardener also expressed condolences to the victim’s family, stating: “Horrific violence in Luton has sadly cost a teenage boy his life today. Our thoughts are first and foremost with the loved ones of the boy who lost his life in such tragic circumstances.”
Police have urged the public not to share distressing videos or images as they may form part of the investigation.
