MobLand season 2 episode 8 is due to air on Friday 6 November on Paramount+, after fans hailed the latest episode as the best television of the year. The crime drama has returned to the streaming service with the arrival of the ruthless and unpredictable drugs kingpin Frankie Cooper, played by Johnny Flynn.
Episode 7 recap: Frankie's trap and Harry's narrow escape
In the seventh episode, the Harrigans travelled back to the Cotswolds and witnessed Frankie's depraved and merciless actions. Frankie came under pressure from Kat McAllister (Janet McTeer), who gave him seven days to destroy the Harrigans and demonstrate his value.
To draw in Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy) and eliminate the Harrigans' ultimate advantage, Frankie orchestrated a trap for Harrigan enforcer Paul O'Donnell (Emmett J. Scanlan). The ambush proved a narrow escape for Harry, who faced even odds of survival but emerged unharmed in a tense sequence of events.
Release schedule and season 3 news
Like the first series, the second run consists of 10 episodes, meaning only three remain before the series concludes. The final three episodes will broadcast weekly on Fridays, with episode eight due on 6 November, episode nine on 13 November and episode 10 on 20 November.
Only the title for episode eight, We Don't Talk Anymore, has been revealed so far, as programme-makers are keeping plot details under wraps. Episode 10 does not signal the end of the series entirely, as the gang drama secured a third season renewal back in September.
At a Paramount UK Upfront event in October, executive producer David Glasser revealed that season 3 will see "someone challenge Tom Hardy", though he declined to provide additional details.
Fan reactions and Johnny Flynn on playing Frankie
Viewers have shared their reactions to the latest instalment on X, with one declaring: "#MobLand season 2 episode 7. There's been some great shows this year. This episode MobLand is the best thing I've watched all year. I'm totally invested in the characters and plot lines. I put this up there with The Wire and Sopranos."
Another viewer posted: "S2E7 is f******* awesome! ! Tom Hardy has been delivering everything as Harry." A third commented: "Some of the best television writing I've seen since Mad Men. #Mobland." A fourth noted: "Is anyone else absolutely stunned by Jonny Flynn's performance as Frankie?" One final viewer remarked: "I think Frankie Cooper is the best villain in TV for a long time. That actor is incredible #Mobland."
Flynn had previously discussed joining the production, telling GQ about playing the unhinged henchman: "It was fun being basically completely demented. I love the humour of it, and then obviously there are some really dark moments. To tread that line of surprise and intelligence - [Frankie] likes to kind of leave egg in everyone's faces, basically, and run rings around people. He's often the smartest person in the room until he meets Harry, Tom [Hardy's] character, and I think there's this lovely kind of polarity between those two characters."
Speaking to Radio Times in another interview, he revealed he bore no resemblance to his character and was actually quite reserved, stating: "I rarely go on a red carpet because if somebody sees me and thinks, 'That's Johnny Flynn, he wears a suit that looks like that...' then they won't be able to use their imagination as actively when they see me in something. Also, I'm quite shy. If I have to go on chat shows, I get terrible panic attacks."
