Midsomer Murders Pulled from Sunday Slot as ITV Premieres New Drama Red Eye

ITV has confirmed that Midsomer Murders will not air its second episode this Sunday, April 21, as originally expected, sparking frustration among fans. The network has instead scheduled the premiere of a new drama, Red Eye, at 9pm on Sunday.

Red Eye follows Dr Matthew Nolan, who is arrested at Heathrow Airport after a dead woman is found in his crashed car. He must return to China in custody to face charges, despite claiming he was driving alone.

Fans took to Twitter to express their dismay. User @Survivinthe20s wrote: 'So apparently this is another random schedule filler and it's not on next week...FFS. @itv @itvx This is not acceptable.' Another viewer, @DebbieBlackma14, said: 'Yeah @ITV @itvpresscentre as much as I'm looking forward to #RedEye I would much rather have a whole series of #MidsomerMurders first.'

An ITV spokesperson told Express.co.uk: 'We only ever had one episode of Midsomer Murders scheduled as they are standalone stories and there'll be more episodes in the coming months.' The spokesperson added that Red Eye will run for six weeks on ITV1 and ITVX.

The first episode of the new season, The Blacktrees Prophecy, aired earlier this month. It featured DCI Barnaby investigating the murder of Warren Kaine, a survivalist who built a bombproof shelter. The second episode's air date remains unconfirmed, though the show has already aired in the US and New Zealand.
