Mathew Horne, best known for his role as Gavin Shipman in the hit BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey, struggled to hold back tears as he revealed the sudden passing of a cherished crew member from the show.
The actor, 45, appeared visibly emotional during a recent interview, describing the loss as "devastating" for the close-knit team behind the beloved series. "It’s been a huge shock to all of us," Horne admitted. "They were such an integral part of the family we built on set."
A Beloved Figure Behind the Scenes
While Horne did not disclose the identity of the crew member out of respect for their family, he emphasised their invaluable contribution to the show’s success. Gavin & Stacey, which first aired in 2007, became a cultural phenomenon, thanks in no small part to its dedicated production team.
"Their work was instrumental in creating the magic viewers loved," Horne said. "We’re all grieving this loss deeply."
Tributes Pour In
Fans and colleagues have since flooded social media with heartfelt messages, sharing memories of the late crew member’s professionalism and warmth. Co-stars James Corden and Ruth Jones, who co-created the series, are yet to comment publicly but are understood to be "deeply saddened" by the news.
Horne concluded with a touching tribute: "They brought so much joy to everyone they worked with. We’ll miss them terribly."
