Kanika Gadyok became the latest contestant to be eliminated from MasterChef Australia during Monday night's episode. The cooks were challenged to create an international dish featuring a hero ingredient, with Kanika selecting corn. The 35-year-old attempted to prepare the kitchen staple in two different ways, but both dishes fell short of the judges' expectations, who noted that her flavours did not impress them.
Kanika's Journey Ends
Despite her elimination, Kanika vowed to continue her culinary journey after the competition. The chef was visibly heartbroken, especially after excelling in the previous spice challenge. Reflecting on her experience, Kanika expressed that she 'loved everything' about her MasterChef journey, even though she was disappointed to be sent home.
Previous Eliminations
Kanika's departure follows that of Alita Harvey-Rodriguez, who was sent home during the previous Monday's episode. Alita attempted to recreate a viral dumpling lasagne but encountered difficulties. The 40-year-old presented ramekins filled with layers of rice paper and spiced beef, but her melted burrata topping overwhelmed the dish. The judges compared the result to wet meatloaf and questioned her combination of Asian and Italian spices. Alita admitted feeling 'embarrassed' by her effort but pledged to continue pushing herself in the kitchen.
Earlier in the week, the season's youngest contestant, Bella Di Conza, aged 20, was eliminated. Bella's apple and cinnamon entremet dessert fell short due to issues with the gel topping and a gluggy mousse texture. The presentation also suffered as she struggled to remove the entremet from its mould, resorting to cutting it from the silicone base with scissors. Her elimination left judge Poh Ling Yeow devastated, who sobbed as she farewelled Bella. 'Bella, I am so broken-hearted for you right now. You are so young and you have so much talent,' Poh wept. 'I know you're going to be a superstar, and I want you to promise me that you're not going to let this moment define you.'
