Selling Sunset star Mary Fitzgerald has revealed the emotional toll of a failed embryo freezing attempt as she and husband Romain Bonnet prepare for a second round. The 42-year-old reality star, who is vice president of The Oppenheim Group, began the process in June as a precaution, but was devastated when none of the seven fertilised eggs proved viable after genetic testing.
Speaking from a holiday in Mykonos, Mary described the $25,000 failure as 'agony'. She said: 'I was at home when the doctor called and told me. I was shocked. I just didn’t anticipate that at all, but he said it’s normal for someone of my age.' The couple are now planning a second round this month, with Mary admitting she is 'nervous' about repeating the experience.
Mary, who already has a 25-year-old son Austin from a teenage pregnancy, said her past struggles as a single mother have made her more cautious. 'I never want to do it again alone,' she said. 'I felt guilty constantly, like I wasn’t doing enough. I was working multiple jobs and just picking him up from one sitter and dropping him off to another.'
Romain, 29, said the couple are aware of their 'timeframe' due to Mary’s age, but are not yet ready for a baby. 'If we had the choice we would wait a tiny bit more,' he said. 'I never thought about having a baby any time soon but I know we have a timeframe.' Mary added that she is considering surrogacy as an option if further attempts fail.
