Heike Makatsch, best known for playing the flirtatious secretary Mia in the 2003 festive film Love Actually, looks worlds away from her iconic role as she stars in Apple TV+'s first German-language series, Where's Wanda? The 53-year-old actress now sports long blonde hair, a dramatic departure from the short black bob she wore in the beloved romantic comedy.
The darkly comic thriller, launching on Wednesday 2 October 2024, follows married couple Dedo and Carlotta Klatt, played by Axel Stein and Makatsch, as they desperately search for their missing 17-year-old daughter Wanda. When police fail to make progress, the family takes matters into their own hands, using surveillance technology to spy on neighbours across ten episodes.
In Love Actually, Makatsch's character Mia famously tempted Alan Rickman's Harry, leading to heartache for his wife Karen, played by Emma Thompson. The film never explicitly confirms an affair, but script editor Emma Freud later stated it had taken place. One memorable scene shows Mia wearing a low-cut dress and devil horns at a Christmas party, telling Harry: 'I don't want something I need. I want something pretty.'
Beyond Love Actually, Makatsch has appeared in films such as Resident Evil (2002) and The Book Thief (2013). She was in a seven-year relationship with James Bond star Daniel Craig, whom she met on the set of Obsession, and later had two children with musician Max Martin Schroder.
