Katie Price has revealed the casual way she adopted the stage name Jordan, explaining that a newspaper photographer suggested it during a Page Three shoot in 1996. In her new documentary series Katie Price: Nothing to Hide, the 48-year-old says the name stuck because the public wanted Jordan, not Katie Price.
How the Name Jordan Came About
In the first episode of the four-part series, which is available on Sky Documentaries and NOW, Price recalls signing up to a modelling agency at age 18. She was offered a Page Three photoshoot for The Sun newspaper. At the time, she said, 'Every day, different girl going topless in the paper and they all had this girl next door look. Seems actually mad now when you look back at it but it was mainstream, it was normal.'
The photographer told her they would change her name for the shoot. 'We come up with different names, Emily, Lisa, Linda, all this. And he said, “What about Jordan?” And I said, “That’ll do.” As flippant as that,' Price explained.
The Impact of the Jordan Persona
Price says creating the Jordan identity had lasting consequences. In the second episode, she shared: 'The public would see me as Jordan. There was no existence of Katie Price. Everyone just wanted Jordan. So I would just give them Jordan.'
She added that only her family and friends knew the real her. 'I suppose it’s affected me in life going forwards because people just see me as an “It girl”, a f**k girl, mother from hell. Not girlfriend material or a girl you’d want to take home to your parents. The thing is, Jordan is me but it’s only a part of me and that’s where it gets difficult.'
