Good Morning Britain viewers found themselves seriously distracted by Kate Garraway's fashion choice mere minutes into Thursday's broadcast. The 58-year-old broadcaster returned to screens alongside co-host Richard Madeley, 69, to deliver the day's latest news and headlines.
Coordinated Tie Ensemble
Kate appeared stylish in a light blue and brown striped shirt complemented by a matching tie for the latest installment of the popular morning program. She completed her ensemble with a brown leather skirt and a voluminous blow-dried hairstyle. Meanwhile, Richard opted for a classic combination of a white shirt, red tie, and black blazer suit jacket.
It didn't take long for home audiences to observe that every presenter seemed to be sporting similar attire, particularly noticeable due to their coordinated tie selections. The pair welcomed politicians Ayesha Hazarika and Kwasi Kwarteng to discuss current affairs throughout the episode, both of whom also chose to wear ties for their appearances.
Social Media Reactions
Viewers quickly took to social media platform X to express their observations about the unexpected fashion coordination. One user questioned, "#GMB - Why are the presenters all wearing ties?" while another pondered, "What with the tie wearing today with the women? Is it female tie wearing day #GMB." Additional comments included "#GMB- State of the two ties!" and "Why is everyone in a shirt & tie." Some viewers offered compliments, with one noting, "Looking good Kate."
Ayesha Hazarika appeared striking in a fitted black suit, white shirt, and black tie, while Kwasi Kwarteng selected a navy suit, white shirt, and blue polka dot tie. Many social media users pointed out that both presenters and contributors seemed to be accessorizing with the same neckwear. When one viewer tweeted, "@ayeshahazarika LOVE your look on #GMB today," Hazarika responded, "Thanks! We were all wearing ties!"
Meningitis Outbreak Discussion
The fashion-focused episode followed Wednesday's serious segment featuring a Good Morning Britain guest who revealed her daughter's life-threatening battle with meningitis B contracted at a nightclub described as a "super spreader" venue. The number of meningitis cases under investigation in Kent has risen to twenty, with nine laboratory-confirmed cases and eleven remaining under investigation. Six confirmed cases have been identified as meningitis B.
This outbreak, which appears to originate from Club Chemistry nightclub in Canterbury, has tragically claimed the lives of eighteen-year-old sixth-form pupil Juliette Kenny and a twenty-one-year-old University of Kent student. Khali Goodman spoke with presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid about her twenty-one-year-old daughter Keeleigh's condition, detailing how the young woman fell ill after attending the nightclub on March 12.
Mother's Harrowing Account
Khali recounted the progression of her daughter's symptoms, explaining, "She woke up, she didn't feel quite well on the Saturday morning. She rang into work and obviously said that she wouldn't be making it. As the day progressed, she rang me, she said she felt really ill with this headache, she was very tired."
She continued, "I don't think her bones were hurting quite so bad, but they were aching a little bit. She had been sick. So I assumed it might have been Covid or something. I suggested that she drink lots of water, go back to sleep, just take it easy."
The situation deteriorated rapidly, with Khali describing, "Later on, hours later, she rang me back and said it's getting worse and worse. Her head, she said that she's never felt pain like it. Her neck, her body was completely stiff, she couldn't even sleep through the pain. She was being sick. She was soaking wet where she was sweating."
The crisis escalated when "She went to the bathroom, she had a seizure, as she fell, she banged her head, she's got cuts on her face where she might have hit something on the way down, and luckily her housemate that she lives with, found her and rang an ambulance."
Providing a positive update, Khali shared, "So at the moment she's doing pretty well, she's improving, her blood pressure is coming down, her temperature is returning to normal. She's started eating a little bit more now which is great."
Good Morning Britain continues to air weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX, blending lighthearted morning entertainment with serious news coverage and current affairs discussions.
