Actress Juliet Aubrey, known for her Bafta-winning role in BBC's Middlemarch, has shared her experience working with John Nettles on the beloved ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders. When asked about the star, she delivered a one-word verdict: 'wonderful'.
Juliet Aubrey's Role in Midsomer Murders
Aubrey appeared in a 2006 episode of Midsomer Murders, playing a character she described as 'a horse-riding nymphomaniac basically'. She recalled the role as 'a really fun role because she was quite an extreme character'. The actress, who has since featured in Snatch, Primeval, All Creatures Great and Small, and The White Queen, said: 'That was fun, that was a really fun role.'
Working with John Nettles and the Cast
Speaking about the cast, Aubrey said: 'The cast on Midsomer Murders, they were lovely, they were great… John Nettles was wonderful.' She appreciated the episodic nature of the show, noting: 'It's nice going in and doing a storyline and then coming out and doing something else, rather than being stuck in a series for a long time.'
Aubrey's Diverse Career
Despite her wide range of TV roles, Aubrey insisted she doesn't have a favourite. 'There are just so many wonderful parts, and at the time you think they're a favourite and then the next one comes along and you go, this one,' she said. 'There's so much variety… to be able to asked to play all these very, very different characters, it's been wonderful, love it.'
Return to Theatre
Aubrey has recently returned to her theatrical roots, starring in a production of Noel Coward's The Marquise. She described the play as 'very fast-paced, lots of laughs, and it's about love and betrayal and lust and hope and new beginnings, all of that, it's really good fun.' She added: 'It's completely different to anything I've ever played before. It's comedy, and it's really nice to be getting into a really happy place every day, and she's fantastic.'
Midsomer Murders is available to watch on ITVX.
