Wednesday Star Joy Sunday Manifested Working with Jason Bateman Before New HBO Max Drama
Joy Sunday Manifested Working with Jason Bateman for New HBO Max Show

In an exclusive revelation, Joy Sunday, celebrated for her role as Bianca Barclay in Netflix's hit series Wednesday, has opened up about the extraordinary circumstances that led to her working alongside one of her lifelong idols, Jason Bateman. The actress stars in HBO Max's newly launched dark comedy thriller, DTF St Louis, a seven-part drama that delves into the murky world of infidelity and secrets within suburban middle-aged lives, culminating in a murder.

From Netflix Horror to HBO Max Grit

Joy Sunday is taking a significant departure from the horror elements of Wednesday to embrace a much grittier and more intense role in DTF St Louis. In this new series, she portrays Detective Jodie Plumb, a character who co-leads the investigation into a complex murder case. This shift showcases Sunday's versatility as an actress, moving from the supernatural teen drama to a mature, suspense-filled narrative.

A Manifested Dream Come True

Sunday shared with Reach that her collaboration with Jason Bateman was no mere coincidence. She disclosed that almost a year to the day before her audition for DTF St Louis, she had sent a text to her manager expressing a strong desire to shadow Bateman. "I mean, it was crazy," Sunday recounted. "I have a text to my manager where I pretty much said almost a year to the day of my audition, 'I want to shadow Jason Bateman.' And then I got to work opposite him. It's insane, I manifested the heck out of that."

This manifestation turned into a reality when she landed the role, allowing her to work closely with Bateman, who plays weatherman Clark in the series. Sunday expressed immense satisfaction with the experience, countering the common adage about meeting one's idols. "You know how they say 'don't meet your idols', I'm very happy that I got to meet him and work with him," she said. "He was such a delightful surprise and just to observe and to get to work closely with him as an actor was such a learning experience."

Star-Studded Cast and Plot Details

DTF St Louis is not just a platform for Sunday and Bateman's collaboration; it features an ensemble of renowned actors. Bateman, famed for his roles in Netflix's Ozark, The Outsider, and Black Rabbit, brings his seasoned expertise to the series. He is joined by Stranger Things legend David Harbour and Dead To Me star Linda Cardellini, adding depth and star power to the production.

The drama explores a dysfunctional love triangle that spirals into murder, set against the backdrop of suburban life. This plot promises to deliver a gripping narrative filled with twists and emotional depth, aligning with HBO Max's reputation for high-quality, compelling content.
