Jamie Winstone has revealed she has celebrity backing on Strictly Come Dancing, with Taylor Swift among the stars supporting her. The 41-year-old actress, partnered with Carlos Gu, said the singer praised her natural dancing ability before her participation was even announced.
Celebrity Support from Swift, Delevingne, and Osbourne
Jamie, the middle child of Ray Winstone and Elaine McCausland's three daughters, has also received messages from supermodel Cara Delevingne, 34, and Kelly Osbourne, 42. Speaking about her paso doble to Let's Dance on Icons Week, she said: "Cara Delevigne is just completely taken away with my and Carlos' performance for Bowie."
She added: "There were signs beforehand, before I even chose to do Strictly, the likes of Taylor Swift saying: 'Oh my God, how do you dance like that? You dance so free.' I was like: 'Does she know I'm doing Strictly?'" The singer spotted Jamie on the dance floor at model Poppy Delevingne's 40th birthday party in London in May, when she arrived with now-husband Travis Kelce, 37.
Navigating the Pressure of Live Television
Jamie also revealed that Kelly, daughter of former X Factor judge Sharon and late singer Ozzy, has been monitoring her progress. She said: "I've got Kelly Osbourne behind me too and I'm like this is the best version of myself that she's seen." The actress admitted receiving positive reactions has been particularly special as she navigates the pressures of competing on live television.
However, she is learning to block out the noise and remember that Strictly is her own experience. She said: "There's a lot of really healthy feedback, but then suddenly everybody does have an opinion. You need to just turn that off sometimes because it is your experience at the end of the day. I want to do a good job."
Recent Performances and Dance-Offs
Last night (Sat) she and Carlos danced a Salsa to the song Filthy/Gorgeous by Scissor Sisters for the Halloween show. Jamie first found herself in the dance-off during Movie Week in the second live show and was placed there again last week, facing former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips and Alexis Warr.
Despite scoring 25 points for their Foxtrot, Jamie and Carlos were saved again, with Anton Du Beke casting the deciding vote. She admitted: "Yeah, it's been hard. Mondays anyway are quite brutal aren't they?" as she looked at Carlos. "It's because you're learning something new, you're picking up, you're taking in so much information."
Jamie continued: "However, this Monday was particularly difficult. I was feeling quite mentally and physically drained, you know, it's definitely new for me, this side to being judged." Despite the knocks, she insisted: "I really want to be here." Strictly Come Dancing: The Results airs at 7.10pm on BBC One on Sunday.
