James Blunt has revealed that Romesh Ranganathan donated some of his Celebrity Traitors winnings to the singer's chosen charity, Blue Marine Foundation, after wrongly accusing him of being a Traitor in the final.
Sebastian 'Bash' Croft, 24, and comedian Romesh, 48, were crowned winners of the BBC reality show in the finale aired on October 30, securing victory for the Faithfuls after banishing Traitors Maya Jama and King Kenny. The pair banked £83,000 to be split between their chosen charities - Choose Love and Refugee Council.
Blindsided by Accusation
During the tense final of the second-ever series, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, viewers saw social media star Kenny turn on Love Island host Maya in the final roundtable, leading to her banishment. In the endgame, Romesh wrongly accused singer James of being a Traitor.
With a deadlock vote between banishing Kenny or James, Romesh and Bash conferred, and Romesh changed his vote, trusting Bash's theory that Kenny was a Traitor and James was a Faithful. With Kenny gone, the pair decided to end the game, but after Romesh blindsided James with his accusation, the You're Beautiful hitmaker decided to banish again, leading to Romesh and Bash voting him out and winning.
James in Good Spirits
Following the series, which was filmed last year and aired throughout October, the cast has spoken about their time in the castle in the Scottish Highlands. During an interview on Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby, Bash was asked about James.
"Have you checked in with James Blunt yet? He looked fuming at the round table," Jordan asked, to which Bash replied: "Aw bless him, I have and he's in good spirits. He's such a legend and taking it all the best he can – a true gentleman!"
Romesh's Generous Move
All has not been lost for James. He revealed that Romesh has donated to his charity that would have got his winnings if he had won - and also put rumours that the pair were "feuding" to bed, saying they get on "very well", describing the comedian as a "very sweet human being".
Revealing Romesh's donation to his charity of choice, a marine conservation organisation called Blue Marine Foundation, James said on Hits Radio: "Romesh is a very very sweet human being, and I promise he and I get on very very well."
When asked if he donated some of the winning prize money to his charity of choice, Blunt said: "He has done. I was going to save that for a conversation I was having with him, but you know, if you're going to mention it, he absolutely has. It's called the Blue Marine Foundation."
