James Acaster has revealed that producers cut most of his roundtable outbursts during his appearance on Celebrity Traitors, including a key moment that could have changed everything. The comedian, 41, became one of the standout players of the series, which was eventually won by Sebastian Croft and Romesh Ranganathan.
Roundtable Scenes Cut to Protect Traitor Surprises
Speaking on Alan Carr's Life A Beach podcast, Acaster explained that his roundtable comments were often removed to keep the Traitors' voting patterns a surprise. He said: "I had that in my head, that all the quiet ones around the roundtable are the Traitors so I went for it. But then I realised.."
"Because most of the time they want to keep how the Traitors vote as a surprise, they don't want to have hints I go one way or another. A lot of the time what I said at the roundtable was cut out so that what I voted was a reveal - so that makes sense."
Jerry Hall Exchange Cut from Show
Acaster also revealed that a confrontation with Jerry Hall, where she accused him of being a Traitor, was cut from the final edit. He recalled: "I looked her in the eye and said, I think it might be me too Jerry, and she said you're very sneaky. And I told her I was very sneaky and it might be me." He said he was shocked it wasn't included.
When asked what advice he would give to someone following in his footsteps, Acaster said there was no need to "try at all".
Murder in Plain Sight and Buried Alive Mission
Acaster also opened up about his murder in plain sight of Ross Kemp, describing it as an iconic moment of the series. He said: "Do you know how hard it is to get someone to yawn? It was the most fun I had when I was in there. This was a silly bit of fun. I did think surely this is impossible."
In a previous interview, Acaster recalled how harrowing it was being buried alive in one mission. He said: "I was lying there thinking, actually, I think I’m really scared of this. As soon as the soil was heaped on top, Bella did say, ‘Imagine if they can’t get us out.' She didn’t like it. She didn’t like, well, none of us liked it. I respect Jerry the most because Jerry just went, ‘I’m not doing this.’ Like, are you kidding me? And the rest of us were just like, ‘We want to win Traitors in our coffins, idiots."
