The wild success of the television adaptation of Rachel Reid's gay romance series has driven a surge in demand for the Game Changers novels, with Australian booksellers reporting significant customer orders and stock shortages.
A seventh book in the series, titled Unrivalled, will be released internationally on 29 September, publisher HarperCollins announced. However, Australian fans are still struggling to find physical copies of the preceding six books.
Paperback copies of the first two novels sold out within a day, and backorders are piling up. A Dymocks spokesperson said, “No one has it in stock, not even the publisher!” The series has been the most-searched title online every week since mid-December.
Booktopia has sold more than 10,000 copies, with all six books in its top 10 bestsellers since the show began airing. The level of interest rivals that of Bridgerton and Fifty Shades of Grey, according to booksellers.
HarperCollins Australia acquired print rights after learning the series would air on HBO Max in November, but initial print runs were insufficient. Reprints are expected in stores next week, barring shipping delays.
