Gateshead streets used for filming of new ITV drama Bad Blood

Residents in several parts of Gateshead have been surprised over the last few days by letters informing them that their streets were being used as filming locations for a major new ITV drama. The cast of Bad Blood includes well-known faces from shows such as Game of Thrones and EastEnders.

Filming moves to Low Fell

Production has switched over the river to Gateshead, most specifically to Deneside Avenue in Low Fell, where residents received notice of the filming and the minimal disruption it would cause, with traffic held for just a few minutes at a time as scenes were filmed. The letter also informed locals that the plan was for production vehicles to be parked at nearby Jessel Street, as they were assured that there would be no impact on them having access to their homes at any point during the filming.

About the drama

Bad Blood is a new series from the same producers behind BBC hit Line of Duty, all about the infected blood scandal of the 1970s-90s, which left more than 30,000 people administered contaminated blood products between the 1970s and early 1990s, resulting in over 3,000 deaths. The first place the cast and crew were spotted was Newcastle Civic Centre, as props including a big red phone box were also seen.

Giving a brief teaser of what to expect from Bad Blood, the letter to residents described the show as factual drama 'in the same vein as Mr Bates vs the Post Office and I Fought The Law,' the National Television Award winning drama starring Sheridan Smith, that was filmed all over the North East in 2024, before pulling in millions of viewers to each episode when it aired last year.

Cast and transmission

A transmission date for Bad Blood on ITV is still to be confirmed and filming is set to continue at various locations across the area this month, with stars including Iain Glen, Joe Absolom and Susan Lynch stepping in front of camera.
