Freddie Prinze Jr., the beloved star of 90s classics, has revealed why he chose not to return for the sequel to the cult horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer.
In a candid interview, Prinze Jr. explained that he felt the script for I Still Know What You Did Last Summer didn't live up to the original. "I read it and thought, 'This isn't as good as the first one,'" he admitted. "I didn't want to be part of something that might tarnish the legacy of the original."
A Career-Defining Role
Prinze Jr. shot to fame with his role as Ray Bronson in the 1997 slasher hit, which also starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe. The film became a cultural phenomenon, defining a generation of horror fans.
Despite the sequel's commercial success, Prinze Jr. stands by his decision. "I have no regrets," he said. "Sometimes you have to trust your instincts as an actor."
Where Is He Now?
Since stepping away from the franchise, Prinze Jr. has focused on voice acting, notably in the Star Wars universe, and has become a successful wrestling producer. He remains grateful for the opportunities I Know What You Did Last Summer brought him.
"That film changed my life," he reflected. "But not every sequel needs to happen—and that's okay."
