First trailer for Sorkin's Facebook sequel The Social Reckoning

The first trailer for Aaron Sorkin's highly anticipated follow-up to The Social Network has arrived. Titled The Social Reckoning, the film is not a direct sequel but revisits Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook, focusing on the fallout from whistleblower Frances Haugen.

Plot and Source Material

The drama is based on The Wall Street Journal series The Facebook Files, which examined the damage caused by the social networking site and how internal findings were buried. Sorkin describes it as a "real David and Goliath story."

Cast and Characters

  • Jeremy Strong (Succession, The Apprentice) plays Mark Zuckerberg, preparing for congressional testimony after Haugen leaks documents. Strong called the script "one of the great scripts I've ever read."
  • Mikey Madison (Anora) portrays Frances Haugen, the whistleblower. In the trailer, her character says: "I don't want to be made an example of by a guy with unlimited resources."
  • Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) plays journalist Jeff Horwitz.
  • The cast also includes Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners), Bill Burr, and Betty Gilpin.

Comparison to The Social Network

Jesse Eisenberg previously played Zuckerberg in The Social Network, earning an Oscar nomination. When asked if he consulted Eisenberg, Strong said it "has nothing to do with what I'm going to do." The Social Network was a critical and commercial hit in 2010, grossing $224 million worldwide and winning three Oscars, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Sorkin.
