A fish and chip café in Broad Haven, Pembrokeshire, has been granted retrospective planning permission for an ice cream sales area, pergola and waste area built without prior consent.
Retrospective application approved
In an application submitted to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, Bryan Batstone, acting through agent Kinver Kreations Ltd, sought approval for an extension to the existing café at 2 Marine Road. The proposal included an ice cream sales area and waste area on the west elevation, along with a new external pergola on the east side.
The works were completed last summer, with the application receiving backing from the local community council, The Havens.
Planning officer's report
A planning officer's report recommending approval stated: "The retrospective structure is considered to be well designed in terms of scale and siting and does not appear to be an incongruous addition to the host building."
The report added: "The existing ice cream shop, shed, and pergola are considered to represent appropriately designed forms of development that support and enhance the visitor economy within Broad Haven, whilst remaining compatible with the character of the site and its surroundings."
Officers noted the use of sustainable materials, including timber cladding, helps integrate the development into its surroundings. The structures are considered proportionate and subservient to the principal building, avoiding any overbearing or incongruous impact.
No objections
No third-party or public objections were received, and the proposal was supported by relevant consultees, subject to planning conditions. Park planners granted conditional approval.
