A singleton on tonight's First Dates leaves his date 'gobsmacked' after he is caught taking a picture of his sock in the restaurant toilets, admitting he needs to 'pay' for their meal.
Nicole is left floored when her date Zac gives an awkward answer to her questions. Before their conversation, he is seen snapping a picture of his sock while she waits back at the table.
An unexpected confession
The unusual moment features in a preview clip obtained ahead of tonight's episode (November 4). Alone in the toilets, Zac says: "I really hope no one walks in right now, but I need to pay for this meal."
He then pulls out his phone to photograph his sock, adding: "If my date knew what I was doing right now, she would kill me."
Once the pair are reunited, Nicole asks: "How many pairs of socks do you go through a month?"
"A lot, to be fair," Zac replies. But things become awkward when Nicole asks whether he 'sells his underwear'. After a silence, she pushes for an answer — and gets a decidedly coy "Maybe."
Nicole's reaction
It is enough to leave Nicole struggling to take it all in. She tells him: "It is a bit icky, I'm not going to lie. I actually am gobsmacked... wild."
Viewers will have to watch to find out whether the pair can move past the exchange. Channel 4's synopsis says the online entrepreneur's date begins promisingly, with easy conversation, before confusion about his work puts their connection to the test.
Other daters this week
He is not the only one facing a nerve-racking evening at Fred Sirieix's restaurant. Waitress Cici is stepping away from her usual duties to try a date of her own, swapping her apron for a place at the dating table.
An official synopsis reads: "It’s a First Dates first as we’ve found waitress Cici a match, so she’s swapping her apron for a seat at the dating table, hoping to find romance on the other side of the pass.
"Elsewhere, self-made online entrepreneur Zak’s date gets off to a promising start, but a misunderstanding over what he does for a living threatens to derail their connection.
"Also looking for love is 58-year-old party animal Nic, hoping to find someone who can match her energy, while architect Ann arrives with her guide dog Ralph, hoping for a date who can see beyond her disability."
First Dates airs tonight at 10pm on Channel 4. Episodes are also available to stream online.
