Emmerdale fans have predicted Mary Goskirk's next love interest could be Vanessa Woodfield, following her resignation from the Woolpack.
Mary (Louise Jameson) first appeared on the ITV soap in 2022 as Rhona's (Zoe Henry) mother. Since then, the ex-journalist has been at the centre of several major storylines, including revealing her sexuality and navigating a love triangle involving Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) and Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick). She was also caught up in the Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) grooming and criminal network plot, during which Celia and Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) tormented Mary's relatives.
Resignation and speculation
In Tuesday's episode (November 3), Mary and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) told Charity (Emma Atkins) they were resigning from the Woolpack to join Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) at The Hide. This turned out to be part of Charity's scheme to undermine the rival establishment from within.
With further developments ahead, viewers have begun speculating about a new partner for Mary. On an Emmerdale Facebook fan group, one viewer said: "Mary needs a new romance!" Another suggested a reunion with Vanessa: "I'd like to see her back with Vanessa." A third agreed: "Same, I actually liked them together." A fourth commented: "Yes get them back together again."
Fan reactions and upcoming storyline
Another supporter said: "Yeah they were a good couple, but not sure how Rhona would feel again," referencing Rhona's close friendship with Vanessa.
Last month, Louise Jameson hinted at a significant new storyline for Mary. She told Digital Spy at the Inside Soap awards: "All I can tell you is that they've asked for a week's holiday back at Christmas – so I've definitely got something coming up!"
Louise added: "There's a pretty dramatic year coming up, but I'm under strict instructions not to say any more, it wouldn't have been what I'd have written for her at all, and I'm learning a lot through the little clues that they've given me. I've had to do some research on it, so watch this space!"
