Emmerdale fans back Mary Goskirk's new love interest

Emmerdale fans believe they have identified Mary Goskirk's next village romance, and they are firmly behind the pairing. Viewers have suggested the character could reunite with former flame Vanessa Woodfield.

Mary, played by Louise Jameson, first appeared on the ITV soap in 2022 as the mother of Rhona Goskirk, portrayed by Zoe Henry. Since then, the former journalist has been at the centre of several major storylines, including coming out as gay and a love triangle involving Suzy Merton and Vanessa Woodfield.

She also featured in the harrowing Celia Daniels grooming and criminal empire storyline, in which Celia and Ray Walters terrorised Mary's family for months.

Quitting the Woolpack

In Tuesday's episode, broadcast on November 3, Mary and Marlon Dingle told their boss Charity Dingle that they were quitting their jobs at the Woolpack to work for Robert Sugden at The Hide. It later emerged that the move was part of Charity's plan to take down the rival business from within.

With more drama on the horizon, fans have taken to social media to predict a new romance for Mary. On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one person wrote: "Mary needs a new romance!" Another suggested a reunion with Vanessa, saying: "I'd like to see her back with Vanessa." A third added: "Same, I actually liked them together."

A fourth fan wrote: "Yes get them back together again." Another commented: "Yeah they were a good couple, but not sure how Rhona would feel again," referring to Mary's daughter and Vanessa's best friend.

Dramatic year ahead

Last month, Mary star Louise Jameson spoke about a major upcoming storyline for the character. Speaking to Digital Spy at the Inside Soap Awards, she said: "All I can tell you is that they've asked for a week's holiday back at Christmas – so I've definitely got something coming up!"

She added: "There's a pretty dramatic year coming up, but I'm under strict instructions not to say any more, it wouldn't have been what I'd have written for her at all, and I'm learning a lot through the little clues that they've given me. I've had to do some research on it, so watch this space!"

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
