The Northern Ireland-set police drama Blue Lights has concluded its fourth series on BBC One, and fans are urging the broadcaster to commission a fifth season. The final episode aired on Tuesday, November 3, bringing to a close six episodes that followed response officers Grace Ellis, Tommy Foster and Annie Conlon.
Series 4 finale brings storylines to a head
The concluding instalment depicted the aftermath of an explosion at Katie's residence, while Gerry's testimony regarding state collusion became public. It also revealed Blackthorn's shutdown as the squad made plans for their futures at different stations, and Grace said yes to Stevie's marriage proposal.
The BBC synopsis for series 4 read: "Three years into their jobs as response officers, Constables Grace Ellis, Tommy Foster, and Annie Conlon are operating at their limit, facing a new threat on the streets that the police can barely control. Meanwhile, the murder trial of Gerry Cliff exposes a dangerous and long-buried secret that leads to chaos both inside the police and across the criminal underworld. As they grapple with big decisions about their future, Grace, Tommy, and Annie must find the courage to face the greatest threat they have ever encountered: the truth."
Viewers take to social media
After the credits rolled, audiences reacted quickly to the episode and made a plea to the BBC for a fifth series, which remains unconfirmed by the broadcaster. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one viewer remarked: "I sincerely hope for more series of #BlueLights." Another stated: "I will sign any petition to keep #BlueLights on air. It's the best show on tv."
Another noted: "Hoping the storyline with station closure doesn't mean end of #BlueLights." One said: "Hearing this is probably the last series I'm gutted. I would literally pay to get more #BlueLights." Someone else posted: "I really hope we get another series of #BlueLights but I've read this could be the last one."
Praise for the drama
A fan praised the drama as "remarkable," declaring: "With all the British based cop dramas, finding a fitting end is tough but for the first time, a drama delivers 4 seasons and closes everyone's arc in the finale. It's superb! Even a tear and I'm not even mad about it! What a show!"
One viewer shared: "Series 4 of "Blue Lights" is done now and just as good as the ones before it. A top shelf production and always has a good storyline. Couldn't put the TV remote away." While another said: "@BBC My life is empty, I just watched the final two episodes of the gritty police drama on @BBCiPlayer last night as I couldn't wait until next week to watch the final episode. Some great storylines and characters. We need more like this on TV."
Much like many others who watched the series on BBC iPlayer, one viewer concluded: "Watched the final episode a day early and it was magnificent." While another simply stated: "I'm going miss this show and these characters so much."
Blue Lights is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
