Caleb Miligan's (William Ash) downfall has been confirmed in Emmerdale, with Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) and Sadie King (Patsy Kensit) both advancing their own schemes against him.
Several weeks ago, Joe hired Sadie to destroy Caleb and Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly), still believing they are responsible for Dawn Taylor's (Olivia Bromley) death. Sadie began planting doubts in Caleb's mind about Ruby's alcohol consumption, and when not targeting Caleb, she manipulated Ruby into thinking her husband has an issue with her independence.
Caleb's Betrayal and Sadie's Change of Heart
The tensions reached a conclusion earlier this week when Caleb, believing Ruby was about to spend a drunken night with Ross Barton (Michael Parr), slept with Sadie in retaliation. After their night together, Sadie met Joe to deliver an update, but notably told him she never slept with Caleb.
The reason for Sadie's change of heart was explained in today's episode, as she confessed to Caleb that she was developing genuine feelings for him. Prior to this, Caleb had accidentally revealed to Joe that he had sex with Sadie. In a panic about Joe potentially revealing the secret, Caleb confronted Sadie, but she pointed out that Joe has no proof of their betrayal.
Joe's Threat and Sadie's Ambitions
Still, Joe now possesses the knowledge of Caleb's secret, which is enough for him to cause damage. Later, Joe walked past Caleb and Ruby with little William in the pram and told his son that Uncle Caleb is evil and gullible, and that fireworks would soon be on their way.
Meanwhile, Sadie told new housemate Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) that she intends to keep her head down and get herself out of the gutter. Sadie believes she deserves more than she currently has, and glanced over at Caleb as she said this.
If Joe does not get to Caleb first, then Sadie will. It remains to be seen how long it will be until Caleb loses everything.
