From quotes with producer Sophie Roper to scenes that have aired, the shape of the coming year in the Dales is beginning to emerge. A feud may rumble on for two warring relatives, while one couple has agreed to marry, with a wedding date set for January. There are also hints of a stunt, though nothing is confirmed. What is certain is a big Christmas on the show, which will pave the way for a major start to 2027.
Actress Patsy Kensit has revealed her role as Sadie King is not a full-time return, with filming wrapping in December. That means Sadie could leave around January or February 2027. Here is what we know so far.
New Year stunt teased
Speaking to Inside Soap Magazine, Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper teased that a stunt could be coming. She said: "We can always throw one into the mix. As we build over the next couple of months, we have some really high-octane stories in play and we know our viewers love a stunt. Stick with us – there'll be some exciting stuff at the end of this year, and into the start of 2027 as well."
She added: "There's a really exciting, brilliant end to the year, and afterwards, a phenomenal start to 2027."
Wedding bells and Liam's secret
A recent episode confirmed that Chas Dingle had booked her wedding date for 29th January 2027. Liam agreed to the date, with the pair set to wed in the New Year. If all goes to plan, the wedding is confirmed, but whether it will go without a hitch remains to be seen, especially with talk of a possible stunt in early 2027.
Meanwhile, Liam is clearly hiding something from Chas and others. Newcomer Dave left Liam rattled when he admitted he recognised him from his past. When Liam realised Dave knew him, while Dave did not recognise Liam's surname, Liam shut him down. Fans are speculating whether Liam has a secret identity, a secret family, or is hiding something about his past, and whether it will all come out at the wedding.
Sadie exit and Joe-Caleb feud
Patsy Kensit told the Mirror earlier this year: "I'm here for six months, so they've got me really busy!" With filming ending in December, Sadie might leave around January or February 2027. Whether a return could happen after this remains to be seen.
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw confirmed that Joe Tate's dark feud with his uncle Caleb Miligan would be ever present in 2027. She teased: "What I can say is off the back of the wedding, that chasm is going to open even wider between those two. It will be one of our kind of big stories, certainly through the rest of this year and into next year." Joe has paid Sadie King to split up Caleb and his wife Ruby, leading to Sadie seducing Caleb. It remains to be seen whether this plan and the possible exposure of the affair will see the characters at war again as 2027 begins.
Other stories to be explored
Victoria Sugden is meant to be returning to the village, though she has told her family she has no plans to come back. Tracy Robinson has moved away, with actress Amy Walsh on maternity leave. Should Amy decide to return to the role, Tracy's comeback could be set for 2027. There is still no update on when Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle's wedding will happen, so 2027 could focus on that.
